Georgia Women's Golf Association

81st Annual Georgia Women's Amateur Champion

Kendall Wright

At the conclusion of an exciting (and very hot) three-day championship tournament, the GWGA crowned Kendall Wright their 2010 eighty-first Annual Georgia Women’s Amateur.

Starting out the third day of competition, Wright erased a 6-shot differential on the front nine of White Columns Country Club in Milton, Ga. to get to within two strokes of defending Champion Mariah Stackhouse.   The front nine rally included two birdies and one bogey for a total of 35.  Stackhouse shot a 39 on the front nine.  Margaret Shirley shot an even 36 on the front and at the turn she led the competition by one stroke.

With the temperature hovering at 100 plus and rising, Wright fired up her game on the back nine - birding four holes for a score of 32.  Her low round of the day of 67 won her the Championship.  Her total tournament score was 209.

Stackhouse had a 35 on the back for a total of 74.  Shirley had a 34 for a total of 70 for the day and a 210 total to finish 1 shot back of Wright. Rebecca Durham finished at 216 in fourth place and Brenda Pictor finished 5th with a 218 total 3-day score.

Kendall’s home course is Bear’s Best Golf Club in Atlanta, GA.

Congratulations to our newest Champion.

1970 GWGA Trophy Returned to its Home State

Eric Carter, from Bend, OR who buys and sells antiques as a hobby, purchased this trophy at an antique shop near his home. He thought this was an interesting piece and loves the story behind artifacts and likes to get them back in the hands of people that are connected. He did some research based on the information on the trophy and contacted Cheryl Drewyer, a director of the GWGA, to see if we were interested in getting it back. Thank you, Eric, for your discovery. It will be placed in the Sports Hall of Fame in Macon where other GWGA archives and information are displayed.
