At 122 for the tournament were two teams tied for third: Linda Cawhern of Brookfield Country Club and Jane Dazy of Atlanta National with a two day score of 63-59; and Darla Stahl of Houston Lake CC and Sandra King of Stonebridge Golf and CC with consistent scores of 61-61. Last year's winners, Rose Mary and Ashley Dixon of Bainbridge CC distinguished themselves with the low round of the tournament (58) and finished tied for fifth place with the team of Eleanor Graham and Dianna Johnson of The Landings Club.
On the winning team, Sue Tucker is also a GWGA Board member responsible for the tournament pairings. "I'm so glad Suzie played well," said Tucker. "I was so worried about the last minute preparations for the tournament, I don't think I even started to settle down until after the first nine holes."
Jekyll Island Golf Club Head Golf Professional Johnny Paulk gives last minute instructions as Tournament Director Sherrie Tindle and GWGA President Olivia Flanagan look on. |
GWGA President Olivia Flanagan reports that all aspects of the tournament went smoothly. "We had one of the largest fields in recent years, the course was in good condition, the weather cooperated, and the pace of play seemed good considering we had 26 teams on each course." The Tournament field included 104 teams and was played April 25 - 26 at the Jekyll Island Golf Club on the Indian Mound and Pine Lakes Courses. The format is a 36-hole, low net tournament and is traditionally played at the Jekyll Island Golf Club in April of each year.
