| The Atlanta Athletic Club, (AAC), founded in 1898, is a world-renowned athletic club in Duluth, Georgia. The original home of the club was a 10-story building located on Carnegie Way, and in 1904 a golf course was built on Atlanta's East Lake property. In 1967 the AAC sold both properties and moved to an expansive site in Duluth Georgia. The vacated East Lake site became East Lake Golf Club and was refurbished during the 1990s, and is now the home of THE TOUR Championship PGA golf tournament. | ![]() |

The AAC has hosted the 1976 U.S. Open, and the 1981 and 2001 PGA Championships on its Highlands Course and the 1990 U.S. Women's Open on its Riverside Course. The Club is scheduled to host its third PGA Championship in 2011. It also hosted the first two men's basketball tournaments in 1933 and 1934. Famous members of the AAC include golfers Bobby Jones (golfer), Charles R. Yates, and Alexa Stirling.The 2006 Georgia Women's Amateur Championship will be contested on the Riverside course. The Championship tees will be set to 5920 yards with a course rating of 75.0 and a slope of 136. The Forward tees will play 5342 yards with a course rating of 72.4 and a slope of 131.
(Note: Course information is provided for your practice convenience. During the competition, the placement of tee markers will be determined on each hole based upon weather, course conditions, hole locations, etc.)
The competition is 54 holes of stroke play. The 36-hole qualifying scores determine flight formation for the final 18 holes of the tournament. The field will be comprised of the 112 lowest handicap index entries received. The July 28 handicap index revision wil be used to determine the lowest 112 eligible handicaps.
The Georgia Women's Amateur Champion will be the competitor playing from the Championship Tees with the lowest total 54-hole score. Competitors with a handicap index of 7.4 or lower must play from the Championship Tees. Other competitors wishing to play from the Championship Tees must indicate their selection on the entry form. Tee selections may not be changed after the close of entries. Competitors not playing from the Championship Tees will be eligible for the Frances Rich Memorial Trophy, awarded to the player with the lowest 54-hole score playing from the forward tees.
The Entry fees is $165 and must accompany the entry application. The fee covers three tournament days of green fees, carts, practice balls, club storage, bag tag, and gratuities.
Entries must be received by AUGUST 21, 2006, at 6 PM. Acceptance notices will be mailed by August 25.
If a competitor needs to withdraw, the full entry fee will be refunded if the withdrawal is made BEFORE August 28, 2006 at 6 PM. After August 28, the refund will be $75. To withdraw, notify Bonnie Branin.
When the field is filled, the additional entries are placed on a Wait List, ranked from lowest to highest handicap index. Competitors will be notified in rank order to fill vacancies.
Competitors must register in person at the GWGA Registration Desk in the Stirling Room at the Atlanta Athletic Club. Registration hours are Sunday, September 10, 2 PM - 8 PM, and Monday, September 11, 8AM - Noon. Competitors who have not registered by noon on Monday, September 11 shall be disqualified. Competitors may authorize another player to register them in absentia by downloading and signing the Registration Form. (This form is available only on this website.)
The Tournament shall be played in accordance with the USGA RULES OF GOLF and Policies and Procedures established by the GWGA. Competitors must wear appropriate golf attire. Tennis skirts, short shorts, blue jeans, cut-offs, tee-shirt, tank tops, and halter tops are not permitted. The Atlanta Athletic Club is a soft-spike facility; only non-metal spikes are permitted.
Caddies, pull-carts, private carts, and coolers are not permitted. NO CELL PHONES ARE ALLOWED ON THE THE COURSE OR PRACTICE AREAS.
The GWGA Board of Directors reserves the right to approve or reject entries and refund deposited monies at any time before and throughout the competition. The Tournament Committe reserves the right to review competitors' adjusted Georgia Women's Amateur Championship Tournament scores with regard to appropriate posting to players' handicap records.
Players will be allowed to use devices that measure distance. However, the use of devices that guage or measure other conditions that might affect play (e.g., wind or gradient) are not permitted.
The course is open for a practice round Monday, September 11, 2006. The tournament entry fee covers the practice round green fees, but carts for the practice round are an additional $25, payable in the Golf Shop. Call the Golf Shop at 770-448-8552 after August 29th for tee times.
